REMINDER: School is not in session tomorrow, Friday, February 13 or Monday, February 16 for a staff professional development day and Presidents' Day. School will resume on Tuesday, February 17. Have a great long weekend!

Set your alarms! We're back, baby!
School will be in session tomorrow, Monday, Feb 9, 2026 on normal schedule! Walkers and bike riders should use caution as some areas may be slick on sidewalks, but roads have cleared for our buses.
We look forward to having all students and staff back in the morning! Enjoy the Super Bowl tonight and we'll see you in the morning.

Parents,
Unfortunately, the temperature outside has not cooperated enough and several of the roads on our bus routes and sidewalks remain unsafe. In order to have a NTI lifeline in the event of another weather event, tomorrow, Fri. Feb 6, 2026, will be called as a traditional snow day.
In order to not have to add on to the end of the school year, the PD Day scheduled for March 13 will now be a normal school day.
With warmer weather expected over the weekend, we are hopeful that we can return on Monday. A decision will be made by 5 p.m. on Sunday and we will communicate that with you.

Parents,
The snowstorm from the weekend of January 24-25 is one we only see once every couple of years.
As hard as our staff and the City of Owensboro Public Works Department have tried to improve road conditions to allow us to return to school, several of our bus routes still have roads we feel are unsafe to travel with students on board. We also have about 1/3 of our students who walk or bike to school and nearly all sidewalks are unusable for that purpose.
Today's temperature didn't do us any favors as we had hoped to see more melting throughout the day. Our team has been out checking each and every bus route and will continue to do so until we are able to return to school. We're also continuing to work with the City to help clear the final spots we need to be able to return to in-person learning.
Therefore, we will be utilizing NTI Day #9 tomorrow, Thurs. Feb. 5, 2026.
We miss our students and we know our parents want them back in school as much as we do. We appreciate your patience as we navigate the lasting impact of this snowstorm.

Road conditions have drastically improved thanks to the efforts of our City Road Crews, but unfortunately, the situation hasn't improved enough quite yet to be able to return to school. Please know we are doing our best and checking routes multiple times per day to try and make it work, but we want to make sure when we do return it is safe for all our students. Tomorrow, Wed. Feb 4, 2026 will be NTI Day #8 for OPS. We miss our students and we hope to have them back very soon! Stay safe and thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue working to get back to school!

Road conditions are improving, but unfortunately, aren't quite where we need them to be in order to return to school. Thank you to the City of Owensboro for their assistance in attempting to get some secondary roads cleared for us today. There is a small chance for some additional winter weather in the forecast tomorrow, but could potentially just be rain. We're hopeful that with just rain and temperatures staying above freezing we will be able to return very soon, but we will keep you informed as conditions improve. Tomorrow, Tuesday, February 3, 2026 will be NTI Day #7 for OPS. We greatly appreciate your patience as we eagerly await the return of our students!

Unfortunately, conditions on many side roads in neighborhoods have not improved over the weekend. Therefore, OPS will utilize NTI Day #6 on Monday, February 2, 2026. We're hoping for more sunshine and warmer weather to help get these roads clear in order to get our students back in school!

OPS Parents, due to ongoing cold temperatures preventing side roads from clearing, Owensboro Public Schools will utilize traditional snow days on Thursday and Friday, January 29-30, 2026. There will be no change to the school calendar at this time.
We will make a decision about Monday at a later time when we can reevaluate the road conditions. Please stay safe and warm through the weekend!

Due to winter weather causing unsafe road conditions, Owensboro Public Schools will utilize NTI Day #1 on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
