Established in 2006, the Neubauer Scholarship at Owensboro High School continues to grow and provide numerous postsecondary opportunities for students and remains the single largest scholarship awarded to Owensboro High School students annually.
The scholarship's namesake, Franklin Neubauer, was a 1929 graduate of Owensboro High School. He passed away in 2004 at the age of 93 and through a generous bequest, the Franklin Joseph Neubauer Scholarship was established in 2006 in memory of his parents, Albert and Katherine Neubauer.
The funds for the scholarship are held and managed by the Foundation for Excellence, Owensboro Independent Schools and are awarded to five graduating seniors from Owensboro High School each year.
When the scholarship was founded, Mr. Neubauer's will stated that the scholarships are to be awarded to students who rank in the middle third of the graduating class, providing opportunities to students who often don't get the top dollar awards.
First awarded in 2007, the scholarship awarded $500 each to five students, totaling $2,500. Due to the investments and management of the funds by the Foundation for Excellence, in 2026, the scholarship awarded five $5,100 scholarships, totaling $25,500.
The 2026 recipients of the award are:
Landon Clark
Leancy Garcia Sanchez
Paola Ortiz Vazquez
Ziany Ortiz Vazquez
Zeke Pulliam
The Neubauer Scholarship continues to be the largest single scholarship awarded to graduating seniors of Owensboro High School and Mr. Neubauer's legacy lives on through the opportunities he is able to provide to these students.
