OPS Receives Energy Star Rating by EPA

In the summer of 2020, Owensboro Public Schools completed an energy project that upgraded many of our schools to become more energy efficient.

The project included a full HVAC renovation at Owensboro Middle School and partial HVAC renovations at Owensboro High School, Estes Elementary, Foust Elementary, Sutton Elementary, and Central Office.

The project also included new LED lighting and water conservation fixtures throughout the district and the installation of solar arrays at multiple district facilities amounting to 762 kW of generation capacity.

Over the course of the five year report, the district had additional savings totaling more than $1.1 million dollars because of these upgrades to the buildings as well as the ongoing efforts of the Maintenance Department and the use of Building Automation Systems.

Each building has received an Energy Star labeled graphic to use on the front of their buildings to recognize their efforts in becoming more energy efficient.
