During last Thursday's Regularly Scheduled Board Meeting, the Transportation Department presented their annual Transportation Employee of the Year Award. The award was presented to Ms. Leslie McPheason.
This year’s Transportation Employee of the Year came to Owensboro Public Schools in May 2021 to be trained as a school bus driver.
According to Transportation Supervisor Shea Hicks, "She loves the people she works with, and is loved and respected by her peers. In talking with her, what she loves most about her job at OPS is her kids and having the opportunity to talk with and start and end their day 'right'. She says that she has found a "feeling of usefulness" that previous jobs could not provide.
McPherson will be attending a "Driver Trainers Course" this summer in Frankfort in order to serve as one of our district's driver trainers. She said that she looks forward to investing in others to get their CDL and to be a better driver. "I hope I can be the kind of trainer that I was blessed to have."
