Staff on the Move

Owensboro Public Schools has named Newton Parrish Elementary Principal Alicia Storm the district’s next Director of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support. She will replace Janie Boarman who will be retiring at the end of the school year.

Storm has served as principal of Newton Parrish Elementary since July of 2020. Prior to her time at OPS, Storm served as principal of Wayland Elementary School in Ohio County, Kentucky for 14 years. Storm began her career as a Spanish teacher at Owensboro Middle and Owensboro High Schools following her college graduation.

In her new role as director of multi-tiered systems of support, Storm will implement, manage, and sustain district-wide multi-tiered support systems at all grade levels.  This role will continue, revamp, and monitor a framework of strong core instruction and behavior supports on a tiered system to support individualized student success.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve OPS as the DIrector of MTSS,” said Storm. “This position combines my passions of instruction and data, along with ensuring student and staff success.”

Storm earned a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Teaching from the University of Southern Indiana and her Masters in Education Administration and Rank I from Western Kentucky University. She also spent time studying abroad at Universidad Madero in Mexico.

“Working alongside each of the district school teams to continue our tradition of excellence and innovation will be an honor,” said Storm. “It's an exciting time in OPS with many opportunities in place and on the horizon.

Having experience as an elementary principal for several years in different districts is something that OPS Superintendent, Dr. Matthew Constant, thinks will make the transition to the new role smooth for Storm.

“Alicia will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to her new role in the district,” said Dr. Matthew Constant, superintendent of Owensboro Public Schools. “She has been a fantastic principal both here at OPS and in Ohio County and her experience in multiple districts will make her a valuable asset to our schools and this work.”

Storm will officially take over her new position on July 1, 2023. The Newton Parrish Site-Based Council will begin the search for a new principal at the school at their meeting in early April.
