Lexington, Ky. (March 19, 2024) – The Kentucky School Public Relations Association (KYSPRA) has announced that Jared Revlett, Public Information Officer for Owensboro Public Schools, has been named the 2024 Kentucky School Communicator of the Year. The award was presented at the Kentucky School Public Relations Association's Spring Conference in Lexington, Kentucky on March 18.
With this recognition, Revlett will automatically be nominated for the National School Communicator of the Year Award that will be presented at the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) National Seminar in Seattle, Washington July 17, 2024.
“Being presented with this award was quite the surprise,” said Revlett. “There is no question that this has been a challenging year not only for Owensboro Public Schools, but for public education as a whole and the School PR community has been very supportive throughout. The award may have been presented to me, but there were so many people that I bounced ideas off of and collaborated with on a number of different issues that it wouldn’t have been possible without their support”
Revlett has served as the Public Information Officer for Owensboro Public Schools for the past six and a half years. He was previously named the winner of the 2021 OV Jones Memorial Award, presented annually to a KYSPRA member for outstanding service to KYSPRA and school public relations.
“I have been very fortunate to work with so many talented School PR professionals the last few years,” said Revlett. “The work we do to keep our staff, students, families and the community informed about things happening in and around our schools is so important and it is a humbling experience to be recognized by my peers for that work.”
Revlett was nominated for the award by Leslie McCoy, Director of Communications for Bowling Green Independent Schools. The nomination form required specific examples of leadership, organization communication, professionalism and community involvement.
“Jared has led both Kentucky School Public Relations Association and Owensboro Public Schools through challenging times, and both are better because of his leadership,” said McCoy. “He continues to grow and develop his skills by participating in a wide variety of opportunities both in School PR and in his local community and he shares knowledge with others around him to build a strong network of professionals.”
In the nomination, McCoy highlighted Revlett’s leadership through challenging times in his own district and as the past KYSPRA president, his recognitions through the National School Public Relations Association, Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce, and Leadership Louisville, his volunteerism with nonprofit organizations, and his willingness to assist neighboring communities through natural disasters among other qualifications under the categories above.
The Kentucky School Public Relations Association will now submit Revlett’s nomination for the NSPRA School Communicator of the Year Award that will be presented at the National Seminar this summer in Seattle, Washington.
