During the Special Called Luncheon of the Owensboro Public Schools Board of Education, the Board approved an amendment to the 2021-22 salary schedule for both certified and classified employees to provide supplemental pay to all OPS full and part time (minimum of four hours per day) employees for going above and beyond during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
As a result, the district will issue two supplemental checks of $1,000 each for employees during the 2021-2022 school year.
This does not apply to substitute employees, however, the district has already adopted additional incentives for substitute employees. In the same meeting, the Board also approved an amendment to the substitute pay scale that provides additional incentives only to substitutes.
There isn’t a single person in the district who hasn’t had to perform additional duties over the past year and a half and the school board and district leadership wanted staff to know that their hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed.
In the meeting, Dr. Constant said, "We know there’s no perfect way to thank you for everything you have done to ensure that our students have a successful school year, but we wanted to show our appreciation and gratitude and I hope this recognition is a start."
The first check will be issued the first part of November. The second is expected to be the first part of May.
