Transitioning from High
School

Transition is change.
Transition is the movement from the support and structure of
school to the opportunities and risk of adult life.
Transition is the bridge from school to a quality adult life
which includes community integration, social relationships,
recreation, and employment. Most, if not all, of the
occupations that interest students probably require some
training and education. Specific programs may range
from ten weeks to two or more years. It depends on the
educational need to perform the job. The following is
a list of contacts, resources, and links to assist with
transition.

Department of
Vocational Rehabilitation- The Kentucky Office of
Vocational Rehabilitation assists eligible individuals with
disabilities achieve their employment goals. In Fiscal
Year 2005, 4,995 Kentuckians became successfully employed or
maintained employment with the help of qualified
rehabilitation professionals. The office employs
approximately 140 rehabilitation counselors in over 50
offices covering all 120 counties in Kentucky.
Department for Employment Services - The
Office of Employment and Training, in cooperation with its
partners, shall provide qualified people for jobs, quality
jobs for people, temporary financial support for the
unemployed, comprehensive labor market information, and
preserve the integrity and viability of the Unemployment
Insurance Trust Fund, thus promoting the economic well-being
of the Commonwealth. |
